MRSA bacteria are common however they do not often cause infection except in cases where an individual has very poor immune system or has cuts and injuries. Patients that are colonised with MRSA, are just provided a nasal therapy and a skin wash to prevent infection and to keep it from being handed to other organs or other people. A particular antibiotic called mupirocin can also be applied on affected areas or the inside of nose as a precautionary MRSA drug treatment. However, many MRSA strains have previously developed resistance to mupirocin.
MRSA drug treatment is often necessary for infected people. Flucloxacillin can be used for the treatment of infections caused by normal strains of Staphylococcus aureus. But for infections caused by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, flucloxacillin will never be able to cure the infection. Some other types of antibiotics such as erythromycin and ciprofloxacin MRSA have also turn out to be ineffective.
